Hold Them Accountable

In the words of Samantha Bee, “We are coming for you, Creeps.” In the news recently, filmmaker Harvey Weinstein has been accused of rape and sexual misconduct, and of course denied it. Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and so many other big name actresses were harassed or assaulted when doing a movie with Weinstein.

But there were also female staff workers and assistants who were subjected to his actions that left them feeling helpless.

He has, of course, denied these allegations but was still voted off the board behind the Oscars. But there has been this power these male actors and filmmakers have that leads them to getting away with years of sexual assault, such as Bill Cosby and Woody Allen for example.

Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexually assaulting his step daughter and harassing many women casted in his movies, is actually, “sad” for Weinstein because it could lead to “witch hunt” of sexual predators.

I hope it does. I am tired of these men in Hollywood who think their money and fame is the golden ticket to rape an aspiring actress and get away with it. They prey on vulnerability, its repulsive and we need to do something. People should not be afraid to speak up. People can speak up, and should be speaking to the press and lawyers. We need to foster safer places for men like, Harvey Weinstein to be called out and put on trial.

Rape culture is too prominent in our society. Men have been able to get away with misogyny and sexual harassment and assault for too long. It is time to hold them accountable for their actions!
