Quick Hit: Female Empowerment: Paying it Forward

This week, I am going to dedicate my quick hit to a truly inspiring individual. The person (who I will keep anonymous) sent me this message three days ago:

Needless to say, I was immensely flattered to receive such a message from someone that I have not had contact with for about 7 years. This message, however, is far more than flattering. It is empowering. Female empowerment is a core value of feminism.  This person is a reminder that women, and people in general, should sip less of that tempting jug of hater-ade.

We need to lift each other up, not shove each other’s faces in the soils of judgment, jealousy, and animosity. Our society (especially females) loves to nitpick, criticize, and compete. But what if society loved to love? How awesome would that be?

Madame Noire explains that “women’s misogynist behavior towards each other” can be explained by many things: fear of not being liked, low self-esteem, the competitive nature of the society we were raised in, unhappiness…Sometimes, our “ability to support, protect and fight for each other is not always our first instinct.”

Women (and I am not talking about ALL women) are often too critical of one other. Let’s break the cycle of hurt and be more conscious of what we say and what we don’t say. This obviously applies to men as well.

I strongly believe that everyone, myself included, can learn a lot from the movement that this simple Facebook message has created. Love more, hate less, and empower those around you.

  1. That is so inspirational and touching! I really hope this movement becomes a thing. I can think of no better way to show support and appreciation to others, and just generally improve/make someone’s day through empowering their esteem. Kudos to that person for being awesome! and thanks for sharing this!
