In Our Backyard (Local): The Rockingham County Board (RCB) started and expanded the “Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow” program. The Rockingham County Board is continuing this semester-long program for the high schoolers, but with a twist . This will now offer mentorships in addition to learning about how to be an effective teacher. This means that after school lets out for the 2020-21 school year, interested upperclassmen will be partnered with a school in their area and a teacher for a full week where they will learn all about the basics of teaching.

In the Big US (National): If you haven’t heard about Candace Owens Ridiculing Cardi B and Megan thee Stallions’ recent Grammy Performance, grab some popcorn and a stiff drink. After their performance,Candace Owens goes on Fox News and says “You see that fundamentally we are seeing the destruction of American values and American principles. And it’s terrifying!.. Parents should be terrified that this is the direction that our society is heading towards. Again, we are weakening America…. We are setting the stage, and it feels like we are looking at corrosion, like we are about to see the end of an empire.” After this Fox appearance, Cardi B tweets her response (see images below), a seemingly lighthearted response… and the rest was history, read some of Candace’s counter tweets below:

Tanzania swore in their country’s first female president, Samia Suluhu Hassan (aka Mama Samia) (that’s what we call girl power!) on March 19th, 2021. A concern some people have with Hassan is how she will address Covid-19. Currently she has appeared many times in public while not wearing a mask and has yet to condemn mass gatherings. Another question most have regarding her leadership is if she will continue Magufuli’s legacy that made Tanzania a repressive state or if she will work to turn it back to relatively democracy.
