A brief preface: Hello reader, this post will be featuring two of my fellow bloggers and friends, @thequeertexan and @theehotgirl, as we read Amy Phony Coney Barrett for filth, but also grip with the reality that us and many Americans may be facing in leui of her confirmation Monday. So, here are our thoughts:
Well, well, well… look who just took a seat in the highest court in all the land that she 100% most definitely does not deserve, nor is qualified for—if you guessed Amy Coochie Barrett, you’d be unfortunately correct. Not only did she take over our Goddess, the notorious RBG’s seat, but Barrett’s confirmation also moves the Supreme Court slightly, but firmly to the right. This confirmation should absolutely be terrifying for anyone who is not a white, cisgender, straight, Christian male, but it has been especially jarring for women, or anyone with a vagina.
In her time as a judge in Chicago, Amy Condom Barrett’s voting record remained almost uniformly conservative specifically on cases dealing with abortion, gun control, discrimination, and immigration. Barrett’s dealings with abortion rights have definitely been conservative, but she has never come right out and said that she wishes to overturn Roe v. Wade; she has, however, according to NBC News, expressed her willingness to defer abortion rights and bans to state legislatures. This statement alone is terrifying because 21 states have signaled plans to ban all or most abortions should the court dismantle abortion rights, often without exceptions for rape or incest—the 21 states unsurprisingly includes my home state of Texas. As if that weren’t shitty enough, it is also common for states to blur the lines between birth control and abortion so much so that contraception could no longer be accessible if reproductive rights are granted to state legislatures. As a woman on birth control, and who has had to take a Plan B a couple of times in her life, and had a pregnancy scare in which I would have for sure had an abortion, I am fucking naucious just thinking about this shit.
What a read thequeertexan. But it’s doing below the bare minimum and getting such a consequential position in the United States a week before an election for me. Like homegirl, describes sexual orientation as “sexual preference” and I have always wondered how nervous I would be if I ever got married to a man in front of my family… but now I don’t have to worry about it because the Supreme Court is now conservative six to three — thanks Amy Coney Bottom. Speaking of bottoms, that is where America is reaching, rock bottom. Because when I google “is Amy Coney Barrett” the first suggestion was “qualified”…. If that’s one of the first things that comes up on google then I might as well not trust my government…oh wait, I don’t. The Senate rushed her hearings to get her into the Court when she couldn’t even name all five rights (freedoms) in the first amendment; let me mind you the one she failed to mention was the right to protest…during a time where there were just protests across the entire nation. But I bet you that the h*nkies on capitol hill are still celebrating Amy Conan O’brien’s confirmation as if the late RBG didn’t say “that most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed”. There’s plenty of things that the court has ruled on to be terrified about, from healthcare, to LGBTQ+ rights, to women rights, to the allowance of voter suppression, and the list goes on and on — so my best advice is to find some bit of peace and hope and hold on to it, or leave the country bc I’m definitely considering it lol.
I wish I had some funny repertoire to insert into this blog post like my amazing writing partners thequeertexan and metaphysicalmewtwo but I can’t even pretend like I’m not terrified for the future of our nation. Not just for myself but for my LGTBQ+ friends, for Black women and women in general, for minorities, for my future children and for my family. I am scared and the uncertainty of it all is one of the things that keeps me awake at night. It feels like we’re going backwards in time and for the life of me I will never understand why what I do with my vagina or uterus is anyone’s business besides my own. Inducting someone like Amy Barrett into the “Highest Court of the Land” during the climate our nation is in was just disrespectful. Even though I expect nothing less from the Trump Administration, a small part of me was hopeful in thinking that we’d gone through enough turmoil and God was going to cut us all a break this time around. RBG paved the way so that women like her would have the opportunity to sit on the supreme and as a thank you it’s only right for Amy Barrett to go in and reverse all the hard work RBG has done. In all honesty, I am just tired and if there’s any room left on the express train that metaphysicalmewtwo is hopping on to get the f*ck out of here, I’ll be on it as well.
you guys think the handmaid uniforms are going to run small? Should I size up?!?
