Welcome back readers! Lucilleontheball here and I’m proud to be serving you as editor for this semester’s blog. We have a lot of great blogging, ranting, and advocating ahead of us, but first I’d like to give a huge thanks to all of you readers out there for your continued support of this blog. Whether you are faculty, students, past bloggers, or interested readers from around the world- we appreciate you. ShoutOut’s mission is, and has always been, to facilitate productive, feminist discourse and that is a two-party job. Your role in this matters. I’m sure I speak for the rest of the bloggers when I say we really couldn’t do any of this without you- so thanks!
Alright, let’s get this show on the road! This semester of ShoutOut promises to bring an exciting array of engaging and thought-provoking discussions, insight on current events, and feminist exploration of topics relevant to the world we are living in today. Luckily, we’ve got a lot to draw from. This summer alone has given our group of bloggers a lot to think about and we are ready to engage. Enjoy Gal Gadot’s feminist, butt-kicking performance in this summer’s box-office hit, Wonder Woman? Was Kendrick’s latest album everything you needed from a socially relevant rap and hip-hop artist? Did 45 do something (anything) to piss you off recently? Let’s talk.
While our cohort of bloggers this semester may be small, don’t let that fool you. We are mighty. Check back on our page every day at 6 p.m. for driven, critical, and inclusive posts by the motivated bloggers of this semester- and for updates on what we’re talking about in class, check out our weekly NewsRoom report updated every Wednesday. Not only will we be providing you with up-to-date information on the world’s most pressing issues but we’ll also be exploring the implications of these issues, leaving the door open for your comments and opinions. If you read something you like, tell us! More importantly, help us keep the conversation going with your own critiques, comments, and questions. We’d love to hear from you.
For more information about who you’ll be hearing from this semester, feel free to check us out in the section labeled Who We Are. Feminism is a complex, interconnected array of backgrounds, ideas, and experiences- and so are our bloggers. To help you explore the site and easily find bloggers or specific posts, don’t hesitate to utilize our search bar located on the home page. This semester, you’ll likely find us referencing the insights and explanations of past bloggers and we encourage you to do the same! Think of ShoutOut as your number one source and database for feminist discourse-we certainly do.
While we do not know for sure what the upcoming months hold, we can pretty much guess that it will be interesting (to say the absolute least). So stick with us and, with our ears to the ground, we’ll uncover some feminist truths together. It’s going to be an exciting semester.
Thanks again for reading and we hope to see you back here on Wednesday for GirlOnFire’s first blog of the semester! I can assure you that it will be on fire.
