Your Source for Feminist Discourse

Welcome Back!

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all ready to engage in more feminist topics this semester! We have new bloggers with fresh new ideas and opinions. Also, we are incorporating a new aspect to ShoutOut this semester. We want to start addressing current topics on a continuous basis. So every week, look out for a post for one of us with a quick, informative week round up of what is going on!

This week:

  • Sarah Palin endorsed Donald Trump’s Presidental campaign and his bid for the Republican nomination. To me (eternallyfeminist), I was taken a back because Trump has very negative and discriminatory things to say about minorities and women. Palin has been constantly criticized for her appearance and rhetoric as a politician due to her gender. I am not a fan of Palin, but I think it is really ironic that she endorsed a candidate that criticizes other politicians based on their gender.
  • #Flint: The victims of Flint, Michigan water contamination have filed a class-action lawsuit against Michigan governor, Rick Snyder. Many argue, he has taken a large role in the lead poisoning of many citizens.
  • The first transgender woman of color, Precious Davis, will appear on Say Yes to the Dress. I hope you all will be watching like me!
  • #OscarSoWhite part 2: This is the second year in a row that ALL nominees were white individuals. Categories like Best Picture reflect the total production of the film, not the acting. An example, Straight Outta Compton was nominated for Best Picture but none of its actors were nominated. Many actors of color are taking a stand and boycotting the Oscars like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. This story is constantly evolving. Go ahead and look at the #OscarsSoWhite. I promise you will not regret it.

Glad to be back & stay tuned for our next weekly round-up!
