The other day, I was browsing through the web and found an interesting article about Disney. This time the article, wasn’t about the sexist, racist, and other “ists” that the movies have presented, it was about a real life scenario. Recently, a mother of three who wanted to have a fun trip at Disney land, was told to cover up because she was showing to much cleavage.
When I read the first couple sentences of the article, I thought to myself, well what was she wearing that made her get this kind of treatment. I instantly felt like a bad feminist, because I was thinking of the mother’s dress rather then the rude employee.
When I looked to the left of the article and saw her picture, I found nothing wrong with the outfit. This mother has a larger chest, anything she wears her chest will look big, and I think nothing is wrong with that. You can’t help what your body looks like and you shouldn’t be forced to cover fully up because of your body size. I just can’t believe this employer had the audacity to tell this mother of three with a husband that returned home from deployment, that she wasn’t respecting the family atmosphere, when in retrospect that mother is creating this atmosphere. I began to wonder what was the outcome of the interaction between tourist and employer and I was surprised to know the actions the mother took in response to the comment about her dress. The mother filed a formal complaint with the park and though Disney has apologized to her, she is still not satisfied, and I say more power to her! Melissa, the mother, thinks that more training needs to be provided to employees, so instances like this don’t happen again. I wish her all the best in combating this further. What do you think?
