As a proud contributor to ShoutOut JMU!, my journey into feminist blogging has been truly incredible. Being a part of this platform has not only been fulfilling but has also provided me with invaluable lessons about feminism. Through my experiences with ShoutOut, I’ve gained an understanding of feminist blogging, discovering its benefits and importance.
Joining ShoutOut, I felt unsure, unsure of what feminism truly was, unsure of my ability to blog, unsure of it all. Over the past few months, I have become so sure – so sure that viewing the world through a feminist lens is important, so sure that we are all capable of blogging, and so sure that ShoutOut is an incredible platform with an incredible community.

ShoutOut’s mission is to offer the JMU community reliable information on events, laws, cultural critiques, and resources related to women’s rights and health, both on and off campus. It creates a secure space for interactive and informed dialogue within the JMU community, collectively advancing the causes of women and marginalized groups. The blog doesn’t seek to convert readers to feminism but rather aims to raise awareness about diverse perspectives on everyday inequities. As a ShoutOut blogger, I can confidently say that this community fully aligns with this mission.
One of the primary benefits of ShoutOut JMU is its ability to amplify marginalized voices. The platform provides a much-needed space for individuals whose stories and perspectives may not be adequately represented in mainstream media. The anonymity behind each blogger allows each individual to feel free in their writing, as we are all safe here.
ShoutOut allows individuals to educate and raise awareness about various issues related to gender equality. From breaking down complex feminist theories to discussing current events and social issues, ShoutOut blogs are powerful educational tools, empowering readers with the knowledge to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges marginalized individuals face.

ShoutOut has successfully created a virtual community where like-minded individuals connect, share experiences, and support one another. This sense of community fosters a supportive environment for individuals to engage in meaningful discussions, and exchange ideas. The community here on ShoutOut is similar to the community many people find at JMU, there is a sense of belonging.
Through the power of storytelling and analysis, ShoutOut blogs challenge and break down harmful stereotypes perpetuated by society by offering alternative narratives and perspectives. Bloggers contribute to the deconstruction of limiting gender roles, promoting a more nuanced understanding of diverse experiences.
ShoutOut blog posts actively encourage open dialogue and critical thinking. By presenting well-researched arguments and thought-provoking content, as bloggers we hope to inspire readers to question societal norms, challenge their own biases, and engage in conversations.
As a member of ShoutOut, it is not only beneficial to the readers but also to the bloggers, as ShoutOut pushes us into a position where we may think more critically and write about issues that are out of our comfort zone – allowing even us to become more educated and see the world through a feminist lens.
In the ever-evolving landscape of media, ShoutOut JMU stands as a dynamic force for change. Through amplifying voices, educating, building communities, challenging stereotypes, advocating for change, and fostering dialogue, ShoutOut plays a crucial role in the ongoing fight for gender equality. ShoutOut bloggers are not only shaping narratives but actively contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and equitable world for all.
In a world where the struggle for gender equality persists, ShoutOut hopes to demonstrate the transformative potential of online platforms in advancing social change
ShoutOut has made me a better, more informed, human being. I hope ShoutOut makes a positive impact on you in some capacity, large or small.
Thank you to the ShoutOut Community. Thank you to my fellow bloggers.
Signing off, FemmeInAction.

I really enjoyed this blog post and definitely agree with what you said about ShoutOut JMU! Every week, we had the opportunity to learn about, unpack, and discuss varying feminist issues within our society, many of which I would not have heard about otherwise. I appreciate how informed this class kept me. I definitely was nervous about coming into this space at first, but now that we have made it to the end, I am so grateful I decided on this class as my last elective.

I loved this blog post! It was creative to describe your personal experience with ShoutOut and publish it in a blog post on the site itself. I am so glad I chose to take this class because not only have I become more informed and have learned to think more critically about my positionality but I have also evolved as a writer and now a blogger. I am so happy that you also had a positive experience writing blogs for this site!
