Oh, To Be A Woman

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be told to wear the fancy dress, the pretty heels, the beautiful pearls

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be told your life will be filled with sparkles and rainbows and twirls

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be filled with joy, connection, and life

Oh, to be a woman

Is to feel that joy severed by a knife

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be connected to half of a nation

Oh, to be a woman

Is to feel the strife of that station

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be told how to act, what to wear, who you are

Oh, to be a woman

Is to never ever stray too far

Oh, to be a woman

Is to always look behind you as you go

Oh, to be a woman

Is always having to repeat the word “no”

Oh, to be a woman

Is too constantly say enough is enough

Oh, to be a woman

Is to constantly be called on your bluff

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be told “don’t go too far”

Oh, to be a woman

Is always running to your car

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be told, “he doesn’t know any better, does he”

Oh, to be a woman

Is to live with the weaponized incompetency

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be shamed when you’re excited

Oh, to be a woman,

Is be told to give in, don’t fight it

Oh, to be a woman

Is to constantly be caught without a weapon

Oh, to be a woman

Is always having a man thinking he needs to step in

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be forced to stay in your youth

Oh, to be a woman,

Is to be doubted, always giving a half-truth

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be questioned about your weight

Oh, to be a woman

Is always hating what you ate

Oh, to be a woman

Is to always feel the competition

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be told “Stop it, fit in”

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be jealous of your own gender

Oh, to be a woman

Is to be told by a man what’s better

Oh, to be a woman

Is a great many things

Oh, to be a woman

Is to also recognize the joy that it brings

Oh, to be a woman

Is to have family wherever you go

Oh, to be a woman

Is to constantly share the knowledge that you know

Oh, to be a woman

Is to constantly feel a bond

Oh, to be a woman

Is to go above and beyond

Oh, to be a woman

Is to have special powers

Oh, to be a woman

Is to stay up talking with friends for hours

Oh, to be a woman

Is a challenging thing you see

Oh, to be a woman

It’s the best thing to be

Oh, to be a woman
