Shout Out’s 2016 V-Day Event: Reading of A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer

On February 25th, Shout Out is sponsoring a reading of “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer: Writings To Stop Violence Against Women and Girls” by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle. We will have faculty and students participating in the reading. This event is a part of a global initiative to acknowledge and bring awareness to discrimination that women and girls face on a global scale.  One Billion Rising also aims to commemorate and being awareness to this issue. JMU Feminist Collective is having a One Billion rising event on campus to bring awareness as well. Check out their page and support anyway you can.

We would like to give a disclaimer that many of the monologues may be graphic, discuss sexual assault and rape.

Shout Out is also donating all proceeds to the New Directions Center. New Directions is a domestic violence center located in Stanton, Virginia. The work they are doing is inspiring and we all need to make an effort to support to our local initiatives.

We hope to see you all at the reading on February 25th in Harrison Hall 1261 at 7pm. We will have a representative from New Directions to discuss more about the organization and  time for mingling with the performers at the end.

Hope to see you there!
