An ex of mine defined herself as genderqueer, and to make things easier, referred to herself using female pronouns. We were young, and she never explained to me whether or not she wished to have gender neutral pronouns or not. Hell, I didn’t even know what that really meant back in the day. But in a stunningly wonderful effort for more inclusive gender expression and identity, Facebook has added a custom setting, allowing everyone to have the choice of gender identification and choice of pronouns. Now, I could give myself the label “cisgendered female” instead of female, and make sure that my pronouns were exactly how I wanted them.
