Links Round Up

Check out what the bloggers found most interesting in feminist news this week:

Redheadfemme thought this article brought up a really interesting point that Rom Coms ( and other genres) need to have more female directors!

ElFeministo read through this article on Slate.com claiming “The Patriarchy is Dead,” with conflicted emotions. He later found this brief, but effective retort on Feministe.com.
Both are worth a read, and take a moment if you can to leave a comment telling us what you think.

Remember when using women using their nudity was powerful and message driven? ImagineHerstory and ladychaotica21 do, but they, along with this article, see today’s pop stars just doing it for the attention.

hearmeroar12 chuckled this week at an article from Jezebel which explains how to use gender neutral language. She has always had a little trouble with this, and it was good to see that other people are thinking about such issues. Check it out for a giggle! (WARNING: don’t read if you will be embarrassed to find yourself laughing at potty language. hearmeroar12 definitely couldn’t help herself).

“Being part of a whole does not mean giving up what you are.”  Check out this link from Houseofadoll

Check it this article from bestlittlelion92 about Mormon women try to claim leadership in the church!

In case anyone missed the news, Wendy Davis, famous for her 11 hour filibuster of an extremely restrictive abortion law, is now running as the Democratic candidate for Governor in Texas. Lfleetwood says if you follow this link you can make a donation to her campaign to help bring a new voice to a state in dire need of change.

Ladylikesailormouth has been reading a lot about the government shutdown this week, but found this Jezebel article that brought to light a new perspective. The article points out groups of women who are affected by the shutdown. One area she thought was especially important was by the end of the month, WIC programs (known as SNAP or commonly food stamps) will run out and cease funding. Because not feeding women and children is what we need to do to get our economy together, right?
