Wednesday Links Round-Up

I hope everyone is having a lovely week. It’s finally Wednesday, which is great because it means we’re so close to the weekend. Last round-up, aliasmitch noted that we’re going to be bi-weekly round-ups instead of one long one at the end of the week. We’re hoping this will keep the round-ups current and not inundate everyone with a million links each week.

Yesterday Katie O. loved Jon Stewart’s coverage of the VA “transvaginal ultrasound” law. Not only does he call it like it is, but he also calls Republican lawmakers who support it out on their total hypocrisy (which is a favorite pastime of mine).

I’d also like to alert our readers to some pretty big news about the transvaginal ultrasounds law published today in the Washington Post. According to the author,

Gov. Robert F. McDonnell is backing off his unconditional support for a bill requiring women to have an ultrasound before an abortion, focusing new attention on one of the most controversial pieces of legislation in Virginia’s General Assembly this year.

Until this weekend, McDonnell (R) and his aides had said the governor would sign the measure if it made it to his desk. McDonnell, who strongly opposes abortion, will no longer make that commitment.

Eszenyme came across this blog, finallyfeminism101, and says “I know there are lots of resources out there for feminists, but I think this is a great resource for people who have little to no background in feminist literature.  I think it does a great job clarifying types of feminism, feminist vocabulary, and it provides an outlet for people to ask any questions about feminism (and get an honest answer).  It can be scary to start learning about feminism and the women’s movement.  Sometimes I even feel like I don’t ‘know as much as I should.’  So, this is a great place for me to get quick clarification!”

Femonfire came across this blog which says that, “because many abortions are done for ‘family planning’ reasons, they are a lifestyle convenience (ignoring that perhaps they are a lifestyle NECESSITY), and that the right is held to a higher standard of fact-checking than the left when it comes to abortion. Though I disagree, it’s an interesting view through the looking glass.”
