Previous to watching the debate I thought, how is this going to go? A black liberal woman going against a white republican male in a political debate being held in today’s day-in-age. Initially, I thought what many probably did, this man is going to bring this woman down as much as he can and try to make a fool out of her and her political beliefs. But, the women, Kamala actually showed up and showed out at this debate. Kamala discussed women rights and brought light to the fact that Trump does not seem to care for them as much as she does.
In the debate Donald Trump stated that he’s “proud” women have been deprived of fundamental freedoms to make decisions about their own bodies. Us women have come to terms with the fact that the stakes have never been higher. Kamala strongly advocated for the rights that us women deserve, for example during the abortion rights factor of the debate. There are many clear disagreements between the two, but drawing to women in this post I wanted to shine light on the fact that women are now feeling advocated for. Black women feel more seen and appreciated, and women as a whole feel like their rights are being as appreciated as men. I have seen many Tik-Toks and other social media uploads of women meeting Kamala and crying, dropping to their knees, hugging her, stating that they have never felt so heard. The stakes are so high and our rights are so fragile. What do we do if she doesn’t win? Will women’s rights be taken away even more due to protest? The anxiety surrounding these questions is palpable. Many women worry that a loss could lead to a rollback of rights that we have fought so hard to secure. The fear is not unfounded; we have seen shifts in policies that directly impact women’s health and autonomy.
As I reflect on this debate, it’s clear that Kamala’s presence represents hope and resilience to women around the world. Women are increasingly becoming aware of the power they hold and the importance of advocating for themselves and each other. This is not just about one candidate, being Kamala; it’s about the entire movement towards equality and recognition. The voices of women are rising, and we are demanding to be part of the conversation, not just as an afterthought but as key stakeholders in shaping policy and leadership.
What will we do? The question isn’t just about the outcome of an election; it’s about the future of women’s rights and the society we want to build. Will we sit back and allow progress to be dismantled? Or will we stand together, advocating for the rights that should be inherently ours? In this critical moment, we must remain vigilant, recognizing that the fight for equality is ongoing. Women’s rights are human rights, and any regression in those rights affects us all. The connections we form, the discussions we have, and the activism we engage in are vital. It is up to us to ensure that the voices of women continue to be amplified, that we challenge injustices, and that we hold our leaders accountable. In the end, Kamala’s performance in the debate was more than just a moment in time; it was a rallying cry for all women. Whether or not she wins, the impact of her voice and the issues she champions will resonate far beyond this debate.
We are at a crossroads, and it is crucial that we choose the path of advocacy and action, ensuring that our rights are protected and our voices remain heard.
