Yesterday when I was surfing around Buzzfeed, I found an article that stopped me dead in my tracks. This beautiful woman popped up on screen, but she wasn’t your average America’s Next Top Model. Chantelle Brown- Young (who also goes by Winnie Harlow) is a sensational model and a woman with vitiligo.
Vitiligo is a skin condition that destroys the skin cells that produce color. This then leads to random white patches appearing across someone’s skin anywhere on their body. This can often make anyone, particularly women, feel extremely self conscious about their appearance.
However, Chantelle embraces her differences by saying God destined her to be different. She explains in an interview,
“A lot of people have a story, a background, but mine is painted on my body.”
Chantelle is such a great role model for young women struggling with their body- specifically girls who have conditions like vitiligo. By increasing visibility of women who don’t have traditionally “perfect” bodies, it can help improve women’s perceptions of what our bodies are supposed to look like. I am so impressed by Chantelle’s confidence, stunning poses, and modeling skills. We need more women like her in the modeling industry. You go Chantelle!

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS. I agree that we need more people like her in the modeling industry. Her photos exude confidense and her story sets such a good example for the rest of us. This is a perfect example of when you embrace yourself fully, inside and out, happiness will fulfill you. She is an inspiration to embrace such a (normally) self-confidence destroying condition, to realize it is apart of who she is and does not try and change it. She is absolutely awesome!
