I was reading Jezebel and found an article that discusses how a recent survey in the United Kingdom has found that more women then ever are completing doing it yourself (DIY) work in the home. This post interested me because typically men do the work around the house or a professional who is usually a man. One of the reasons the survey conducted by WD bathrooms suggests that women are now taking charge of making sure the home looks good is that many single women are homeowners and people want to save money. So what better way than not asking a friend or family member to help you or hire a professional than doing the job yourself?

Top DIY tasks that women are undertaking according to The Daily Mail include, changing light bulbs (anyone can do that I hope), changing fuses, fixing the toilet, replacing doorknob, patching hole in the wall, painting, hanging wallpaper, sealing windows, and hanging pictures (again anyone can do that I hope). It is nice to know that many women are now not relying on other people to do household work and chores, but instead are relying on themselves. I can do some of the DIY tasks that The Daily Mail mentioned but not all. I am a quick learner though. Also many home improvement shows on channels such as HGTV have women who host their own DIY home improvement shows. Either way I thought this was a cool article and I hope that I will get more DIY home improvement skills under my belt, along with many other women.

This is a cool little post. It’s nice to see women not relying on other people, and more importantly: realizing they don’t need too. I personally can’t do some of those task, but would be willing to learn.

Steeleba thanks for the feedback! I too agree that it is important that women are taking charge of home improvement. And I think anyone can do these tasks if they put their mind to it and do a little research.
