Hello! Hope everyone has kicked off their spring break!
I stumbled upon this article while surfin’ the net the other day and wanted to share it with you all. It is basically a bunch of photos with little descriptions of women celebrities who used to struggle with drugs, weight, partying, etc. and now have gotten their lives together and are moving on to bigger and better things. A couple names include: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Fergie, Courtney Love, Pink, and more.
At first glance, I thought this is was a cool shout out to some women who have taken time to care for themselves and are now doing great things including philanthropy and running their own businesses. Once I started thinking about it though, it also made me think about how we still always put this kind of pressure and attention on women. Women can easily get the reputation of being a “bad girl” but do men get that same reputation if they like to party? Obviously drug addiction is more serious but in general I feel like women in the media are put under a magnifying glass. It seems people want women to be beautiful and attend social events, but don’t get too wild or they will plaster an unflattering picture of you on the cover of the tabloids the next day. If they have kids, they are expected to take good care of their kids but also lose all of the baby weight ASAP and look good doing it. It is a lot of pressure and for celebrities it can all be documented and shown to the world. I think they receive a lot more attention in this way than men but would love to hear feedback! What do you all think? How does that article make you feel?
Besos!

I think you’re exactly right when it comes to saying that often women get more scrutinized for their actions, especially within the media. Prince Harry is a wild child but he’s just sowing his wild oats, but the moment Miley Cyrus does it she’s being too edgy, too wild, too much of a bad influence. And I’m so glad you brought up the baby weight issue! It’s like the we “appreciate” the female form in pregnancy and are so happy about that fact, but the moment the baby has popped out we can’t stand to see that type of body anymore and it’s sad really.
