Chelsea Handler Why We Need More “Raunchy” Women Comedians: Part Two

So here is the conclusion about why we need more “raunchy” women comedians like Chelsea Handler. Even though many people are not fond of Ms. Handler’s comedy as she uses a lot of profanity, many people also like her. Greenfield’s article from Time Magazines claims that the majority of America still finds the idea that a foul-mouthed female comedian is shocking. I think it is ridiculous that people hold such a stigma. America is all about freedom of speech and if a woman comedian wants to be vulgar then she should be.

"You should always speak your mind, and be bold, and be obnoxious, and do whatever you want and don't let anybody tell you to stop it." Chelsea Handler <3pinterest.com

The reality is that many men in the world of comedy are more offensive in their humor compared to women. When men make jokes about their sex lives it is considered a norm but when Chelsea Handler makes jokes about her sex life she is considered “raunchy.”  Chelsea Handler has stated in regards to her raunchiness, ‘Men are more apt to use that word about women than women are. I think that’s why my audience is so female-heavy. They cheer you on, whereas men are, like, you’re not supposed to talk like that.’ Do you agree with Ms. Handler’s statement or disagree?

I for one completely agree with Chelsea Handler. I think that since Chelsea Handler is a woman she has a lot more female fans. I completely believe if she were a man she would have more male fans and still a good number of females fans, because society is more comfortable with a man being crude in comedy than a woman. Sadly because Chelsea Handler is a woman she does not have many straight male fans. It is time that more women become a part of comedy and if they wish to be offensive than they should be and they should have the same respect as their male peers. I think another reason why Chelsea Handler has so many fans is because she insults them, which is really a compliment. No one is safe in her comedy, including herself, her fans, and society. Chelsea is not just a comedian, but she is a good person and donates to a variety of charities as well.

Chelsea Handler uses her celebrity endorsement to help people. She is active with Susan G. Komen For the Cure and GLADD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.) These organizations are very important to Ms. Handler as her mother died from breast cancer and even though she is not gay she believes it is “…important to speak out for people that aren’t necessarily dealing with the same circumstances you’re dealing with and don’t have the benefit of the health care system or the government that you do.” Well said Ms. Handler. Whether you love Chelsea Handler or hate her she is here to stay. I think she is a great role model for women in comedy.  Do you think Chelsea Handler is a good or bad in regards to feminism?
