See what our bloggers’ top feminist picks of the week were!

  • Redheadfemme found this article about the prevalence of predatory nature in frats, which she notes is very interesting, especially with buzz going on about the “rapebait” email.
  • ImagineHerstory is hopeful for the future of women in India with new laws being put in place to help protect women against sexual violence.
  • Sometimes we overlook sexism in smaller fields and communities that could have an impact on our larger culture and view of women. Ladylikesailormouth found a fascinating article about the continued sexism in the classical music industry. While many of us may not know much about classical music, the oppression of female conductors could affect music and fine art as a whole. We need to support sisters in whatever fields they are in.
  • Houseofadoll wants to call our attention to the “Who Needs Feminism” campaign which is used as a case study to identify what marketing tactics helped to make it so successful in this new age of technology. The case argues that marketers can learn a lot from this example.
  • Bestlittlelion92 asks us to check out this article to read more about the 40 year anniversary of Antigone books, one of the few feminists bookstores in the nation!
  • Lfleetwood wants to share this with us this week:  Even though 16 year old Malala Yousafzai did not win the Nobel Peace Prize this year, that did not stop her from reportedly proclaiming to the POTUS to support Pakistani Education, not drone attacks. Yousafzai was shot in the head for her promotion of education for all children, including young girls. She is, however, not afraid to keep speaking her mind and being a strong activist for Pakistani youth.
  • hearmeroar12 wants everyone to give a cheer and a “hell yeah!” for these awesome Saudi women who stood up for their rights this week. In Saudi Arabia, women can’t drive. I’m not making a joke, I’m being literal – it’s illegal for women to drive there. Well, don’t tell these ladies that they can’t drive cars…because they will make damn sure that they do so anyway.
  • Trick or Treat!  Ladychaotica21 is getting into the spirit of Halloween, and absolutely loves this feminist spin on girls’ Halloween costumes.  Such a powerful reminder that we should teach our daughters (and remind ourselves!) that we can accomplish way more than being a Disney Princess.
