Check out what our bloggers thought were the highlights of the week:
ladylikesailormouth dug this hilarious parody video about the sexual exploitation of women on television. Channels on HBO are known for their excessive nudity- but almost always just from the ladies. If they want to show sexual content, where are the men in these scenes?
ElFeministo enjoyed reading this article from CNN about how the “brass ceiling” is slowly being cracked open for women in law enforcement. In the wake of the Washington Navy Yard shooting, it’s cool that this article points out women including Police Chief Cathy Lanier led the response. Kudos to author Peggy Drexler for bringing attention to the gender-gap in this niche of the public workforce!
Lfleetwood wants to share this link for anyone feeling particularly marginalized for being heterosexual these days in a university setting.
Redheadfemme found two articles this week. She found this one from Jezebel, and thinks it’s so crazy that that young woman’s doctor had the audacity to remonstrate her sexual activity. The second article she found on Buzzfeed, and found it to be very enlightening. The rape crisis in India is pretty terrifying so she thought that it was a really cool idea to have popular Bollywood actresses endorsing the video. Plus the message is so powerful.
Ladychaotica21 digs Guinness Beer’s latest commercial, which not only avoids objectifying women, but makes a powerful commentary in protest of ableism. Not only is it empowering, but this ad is the pinnacle of intersectionality.
ImagineHerstory wants to show support for #Rose4Space for sticking it to Axe and its patriarchy.
Houseofadoll says, “although this article is from last year, I thought it just showed what a skewed view most people have of feminism and what it actually entails. Even today, people are still (outragedly) circulating this article from 2003. Even though they are disgusted with what the article says, it is still reenforcing to some extent that a feminist is an “unshaven tomboy in cargo pants demanding that penises be cut off to stop wars.”
Bestlittlelion has two articles for us this week:
Already with the Feminism? Yes first year students are getting engrossed into the world of Feminism themselves during orientation “Freshers” week at Sheffield University. Check out this link to know more! And, apparently if you’re a Feminist, you’re doing it wrong. This article discusses the million things us Feminist have been blamed for, and here I thought we were just fighting for equality.
Hearmeroar12 says, “check out Ellen’s idea of a good commercial for BIC For Her pens. Pink and purple have always been my favorite colors…not. They very clearly aren’t Ellen’s either.”
