3 Podcasts to Incorporate Into Your Daily Routine

1. NPR “Up First”

“Up First” is a podcast produced by National Public Radio in the United States. It’s a morning news podcast that provides listeners with a quick overview of the day’s top news stories. The podcast typically runs for about 10-15 minutes and is released every weekday morning with the aim of giving listeners a concise and informative summary of the day’s news.

The podcast is generally considered to have a reputation for being centrist or center-left in its editorial stance. While individual stories or segments may cover topics that touch on political issues, the overall tone of the podcast is usually impartial.

Each episode of “Up First” features NPR’s journalists and correspondents discussing and analyzing the most important news stories happening around the world. The podcast covers a wide range of topics, including politics, international affairs, business, technology, culture, and more.

Especially for full-time college students juggling part-time jobs and extracurriculars, engaging with these brief updates in the car or while walking to class has become a convenient way for me to stay updated on current news. These daily episodes are brief and informative, making them a simple addition to anyone’s daily routine.

2. “Your Angry Neighborhood Feminist”

In “Your Angry Neighborhood Feminist,” Madigan, an intersectional feminist, tackles issues affecting women and the broader world. The podcast releases approximately two episodes weekly, delving into a range of topics encompassing cultural, historical, and political matters.

Madigan delivers well-researched information while infusing her personal feminist perspective. Among my preferred episodes are the notable ‘What’s In The News?’ segments, offering a breakdown of current global events followed by Madigan’s insightful commentary. Additionally, episodes exploring the history of notable feminist figures and events provide valuable insights into the evolution of feminism.

My Go-To Podcast: “I love this podcast. Keegan (former co-host) and Madigan do such a great job of speaking the truth and bringing nuance to the conversation when necessary. I find myself nodding my head in agreement all the time, while also learning new things each episode. What’s in the news are my fav episodes because as things come up throughout the week, I find myself thinking, “I can’t wait to see what YANF’s take is on this.” Thank you for all you do! Thanks for encouraging us and holding us accountable to continue the work to fight for everyone’s rights.” Five Star Review by “brittanyh825” on Podbay

Being a young woman, this podcast has provided me with valuable education on feminist history, current events, their implications for me, and remarkable influential feminist figures. I highly recommend giving it a listen; you won’t regret it!

3. “Just Break Up”

“Just Break Up” is a relationship advice podcast that embraces queer inclusivity, featuring two best friends in their thirties as hosts. Each episode, Sierra DeMulder and Sam Blackwell respond to inquiries from listeners worldwide on topics spanning romance, heartbreak, family dynamics, mental well-being, and more.

Sierra DeMulder is an acclaimed performance poet, educator, and mental health advocate. Sam Blackwell works as a Senior Strategist at a consulting firm, specializing in guiding clients to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion within their workplaces. Together, they tackle matters of the mind and heart with a refreshing and uplifting outlook on life, providing a compassionate and non-judgmental space to delve into relatable issues while also challenging systemic structures in our society.

Changed my life: “… I can say that listening to Sam and Sierra’s humble musings guided me toward the courage to cut a relationship out of my life that was no longer serving me. That being said, I recommend this even if you are in a healthy relationship or not. Even if you don’t think you’ll relate to the letter writers’ various situations, you probably will still learn something new. Sam and Sierra get to the heart of the issue. The language and tools that they use (attachment styles, abundant/scarcity mindset, etc) frequently repeat throughout their advice providing a foundation to discuss and discern all sorts of sticky situations (romantic and not!).” Five Star Review by b_alice121 on Apple Podcasts

This podcast has transformed my outlook on life, guiding me through healing from past relationships and trauma while fostering mindfulness and empathy in my interactions with the world. From a longtime listener, this is seriously a great pod!
