Bella Hadid is proud to be an advocate for Palestine

The war between Palestine and Israel is all anyone these past two months have been talking about. The heartbreaking events that have occurred have inspired people all over the world to stand up and speak out on their beliefs. For many this has come at a price. Bella Hadid, a global super model, has been one of many who have spoken up about the tragic event that has taken place and her support for Palestine, and has received an absurd amount of backlash. While also being fired and losing out on opportunities in her career.

Bella Hadid’s father is Palestinian, so she feels she must speak up for her people. She also stated that she will never stop advocating for Palestine and she wishes she would’ve started sooner. Due to her efforts to bring attention to the Palestinians, she not only has lost several jobs, but has lost many relationships through this as well. With speeches being made and posts on Instagram, Bella has also received massive amounts of hate for the internet as well. A woman who thrived in her field and was one of the highest paying models in the world, has lost so much just for exercising her 1st amendment rights. 

Freedom of speech is something that all Americans have the right to, even supermodels. So why are people and brands trying to shut Bella up? These companies are essentially threatening Bella to stop speaking out for Palestine, or she won’t have a career anymore. Bella even stated in one interview, “I really do believe that if I started speaking about Palestine, when I was 20, I wouldn’t have gotten the recognition and the respect that I have now,” There is something to be said about a supermodel using her platform for good, it is inspiring and has encouraged so many more people to speak up for Palestine as well. 

Bella is not the only Hadid sibling speaking out. Gigi, Bella’s older sister also contributed to the free Palestine movement by posting an Instagram graphic with the caption “There is nothing Jewish about the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians. Condemning the Israeli government is not antisemitic and supporting Palestinians is not supporting Hamas.” The state of Israel Instagram wrote back to Gigi and essentially accused of being anti-Semitic. Gigi quickly responded with a statement saying that she is not anti-Semitic and is sending love and support to Palestinians and Israelis. Posts on the subject stop there with Gigi though.

There have been several Free Palestine protests across the world.  The protest in Washington D.C. is one that I have seen photos and videos from, the majority of the protesters’ faces are covered, why is this you ask? These protesters fear for their jobs and lives. Looking at someone like Bella who is so successful, it’s sad and scary to think that you could lose the opportunities you may have in your career as well. These are peaceful protests that are taking place, so why do they have to fear for their job security? Voicing your beliefs has always been expected of us as Americans. 

Bella Hadid continues to post support for Palestine every day on Instagram and other social media platforms, she strives to educate people on the issues occurring in Palestine and she is doing an amazing job by using her fame and influence to do so. This war between Palestine and Israel is heartbreaking. Too many lives have been lost. Regardless of what stance you take at the end of the day we are all people, and we should all love and support each other.
