HannahGrace wants to send out three cheers to the Phi Alpha Tau brothers at Boston’s Emerson College who raised $81,000 for a fellow Greeks female-to-male top surgery! The brothers said, “We are here to tell a story. The story of transformation, the story of self-discovery, and the story of brotherhood.” Hip, hip, hooray!
Ladychaotica21 found this outrageous article from Samantha Brick, who equates fat with failure, and maintains that her lifelong diet efforts have ensured that she’s “never out of work and never without a boyfriend.” How does this woman’s fat talk and extreme obsession with the thin ideal damage the path to self-empowerment? In what ways do you consider this an impetus to feminism?
Kelly J. read this post about consent and what it really is and looks like. It is important that the education of this topic is spread. This post talks about what we see in the movies and how that can affect our actions and viewing of consent, and she completely agrees.
ImagineHerstory loves comics but the fact that these t-shirts are the ones being sold makes her upset. Comics have such a potential to empower women it’s sad that it’s not being done in this way.
Kate says that if you have been following the story on Boy Scouts and their ban on having gay membership you will want to read this on Feministing. There are trying to propose to lift the ban this issue but there are still implications to their deal which will not have fully out members that might affect the “mission”of BSA.
Shameless Fem says that abstinence has never been an answer to any of her life questions but apparently Ohio thinks it’s the solution, though increasing teen ignorance seems a little counterproductive. She has to agree with those at Jezebel that an abstinence-only form of sex education is going to ultimately do more harm than good, statistically speaking.
Femonfire found this blog post about a men’s rights advocate who is suing his gym for having women’s days, showing us all that the patriarchy is still alive, well, and playing the victim.
ElFeministo forgot this week’s Round Up again and is editing to include his find of a tumblr page that lists the boy’s clubs of the world. Every grouping from the governors of New York to the boards of major corporations are 100% men. Not surprising, as Feministo was scrolling through he noticed most of these groups not only lacked the opposite sex, but also color. Patriarchy: still alive and still kicking everyone else to the curb.
