This week at Shout Out!
ImagineHerstory is great pleased to see this article! She’s glad at least someone in in the mainstream media is understanding that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
Ladychaotica21 wants us to check out the latest incident of slut shaming, out of a high school in Fairfax, VA. She’ll be following up on this topic in this week’s blog post, so read up and be in the know now!
HannahGrace is in love with the SPARK movement, an organization that is teaching girls ages 13-22 how to be policy makers, activists, and media makers! Check them out – their website includes an AWESOME blog!
Kelly J. found this “geek feminist” blog discusses the open use of sex and porn in the technology world. At repeated conferences there was the use of pornographic images used as “ice breakers” for the tech audience. A great point that the blogger brought up was that with this being the ice breaker, the assumed audience was men, where as there was still many women in the audience. This loose and relaxed use of porno in something as daily as technology conferences is not alright because it belittles the women and objectifies us females and our bodies.
JGrand50 found this horrible high school speaker. Abstinence only education is just a bad joke.
FemOnFire had something to think about after reading this blog post about Reebok dropping Rick Ross after he wouldn’t apologize for promoting rape culture in his music, which asks us whether incentivizing celebrities with money is really getting the right message across.
ElFeministo found an article of a sub-reddit page called The Feminist Victim’s Fund and their attempt to help a man fired for making a sexist comment. This then led Feministo to dig deeper and find a summary of the events via BuzzFeed: Adria Richards and her tweet heard round the world sparking the “Donglegate” hashtag.
