This week:
Femistorian wants everyone to read the transcript of the Vice-Presidential debate. Because Joe Biden was hilarious, and the moderator (a woman!) was obviously the winner.
JGrand50 brought this to our attention, because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we need to read a discussion about changing the focus of awareness to finding a cure.
Visionsofourfuture asks, Did you hear about the Paul Ryan endorsed Wisconsin lawmaker who said “some girls rape easy”? If not, read this article and see how he tries to make some claim of ‘context’ to defend his comments and see the full extent of the rape culture that exists in our society today.
And finally, eszenyme reminds us that as always, “new and old” feminists sometimes need help on how to “do” feminism. Here is another great resource from our friends at Finally Feminism 101.

I really like the link from JGrand. I think breast cancer awareness in our society has almost become a pop culture phenomenon. There are walks and races that many people participate in and raise support for. But, there are also huge marketing ops for companies like McDonalds, North Face, etc. who use the pink ribbon to get sales. I think I agree that we’ve currently raised awareness (and funds) and I am ready to see some real progress in the science departments. Having said that, I realize that it’s not like the flip of a switch where results will start to pour in with more money. But, I would love to see some increased focus on results and not just awareness.
