Abortion is Genocide…? Lets let God decide, as we take a look at an extremist view of the issue

Hello all!  I know that ksensabaugh posted yesterday about the Genocide Awareness Project, that took place on the Commons both today and yesterday; but I really wanted to lend my thoughts about it as well as the conversation that I had with one of the women from the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform.  As I walked toward the commons yesterday, I heard loud voices saying… “Abortion is not genocide… Exploitation of genocide is wrong…” and I was definitely interested in seeing what all the fuss was about.  As I got closer, I began to see the very graphic pictures showing different instances of genocide throughout history coupled with unborn fetuses or fetus parts.

I thought to myself that the photos were kind of extreme, but I was not offended, because I think that most people do not see that side of abortion.  I think that abortion has been a term that is kind of thrown around and the idea of it by some may not be taken as serious as it really is because it is so culturally accepted.  To see those photos, however, raises a bit of controversy because it’s in your face, and no one wants to believe that the images could be a reality.  They bring more of a sense of realness in my opinion.  most people may have been confused about how the photos of the babies could have even been taken.   Most of the photos were taken in the first trimester, and what people are unaware of is when abortion is done not in medical facilities, but illegally, or what have you, you will get those who give these abortions, and just throw the unborn fetus in the dumpster, and that makes it possible for anti-abortion officials to find and to take these types of photos.

My next thought, was, “if abortion is not genocide, then what is it?”  Before I continue, I want to say that in no way do I condemn anyone who has had an abortion or plans to get one, I just am giving you all my thought process.  The acts of genocide that were presented in the photos came from the Holocaust, slavery, and photos from the Sutus and Tutsis.  Every one of the presented genocides were fueled by hate, as most genocide are; but in that case, where does abortion lie?  I immediately thought that it may not be from the hate of a baby at all that women choose to get abortions (even though I n some cases that is the case), because women get them for various reasons; but abortion, in my opinion, stems from a hate of righteousness, a blatant disrespect and regard for Jesus Christ.  Abortion is not something that God desires us to do, even though he allows us free will.  And when the choice is made to end a life, no matter what trimester, it is still contrary to God’s true will for our lives because it is sin, as it is not any of our right (in his eyes) to take a life that he created.  There is a bright side to my point which I will get to later.  Also, people would be offended that abortion could be called genocide, because they may not have fully researched the subject, or even really know the origins of things like planned parenthood in America, and how it was closely tied to the Eugenics movement in the U.S.  People also may not know that Abortion is the Number ONE killer of African American people.  I watched a movie one time that was talking about black genocide, and it was heavily talking about abortion, and one of the facts that I remember faintly was that each week, the amount of abortions done in the U.S. equal the casualties from either Vietnam or WW2 (I can’t remember for sure, but I know that it was either war), which is mind blowing because that is a lot of babies killed.  So if I look on that side of it, I can see how Abortion could be tied to genocide.

I will say, however, that I think it was very extreme how the information was presented, especially since there was not redemptive side to their message, unless you asked one of the women of course.  Being a Christian myself, I would have loved for them to show the redemptive side of abortion, and that there is hope for those who may have had one and regret it, or that for those contemplating it, there is hope and help for them, and even resources, like the Harrisonburg Pregnancy Center,  in our community.  Although abortion is not something that God desires for our lives, he still has mercy and grace on us, (grace and mercy that is not to be abuse…even though we abuse it, unfortunately), and just because a woman gets an abortion does not mean that he hates them , or that it exempts them from his kingdom.  He only asks that repent (turn away from our sin/the “bad” things that we do) and confess it to him, and he will restore us back to him, if we are already a Christian, and give the opportunity for those who are not already Christians to come to him and be added to his kingdom.  Most women may not get to see this side because most anti-abortionist only preach “Abortion is wrong!!!” and do not give these women any sense of hope; it’s all about shame and that’s only a skewed view.

Me being curious, I went to one of the women and asked her how successful this Genocide Awareness Project was, and she told me that although they get a lot of opposition, that in some cases it does deter women from getting an abortion, and that even women who may have had one already have even asked about post abortion counseling, etc.  One of the photos of a baby on the display was one of a child that was saved 12 years ago, according to the woman that I spoke to, as a result of them doing this.  She told me that they had a formal program on that campus, and there were 12 women pregnant and 9 chose to keep their baby and the baby in the photo was one of them.  I thought that was awesome!  I will say that even though it is extreme, and that it does raise a lot of opposition from various groups, and students on our campus, I am pretty sure that at least one woman on our campus has thought twice about even getting an abortion, and that is their main objective.  For that I cannot be that mad at them.

I know that my post today is controversial and that people may completely disagree with my thoughts; but, honestly I can only give it from the perspective that I have given today.  I understand that what a woman does with her body is her choice, but it comes down to what choices we make.  I believe that when we have sex, there is a chance we will get pregnant ladies, and even if making the choice to end it, for whatever the reason, is our government given right, it still is not right.  Now we could get into the debate about the woman who gets raped, and what does she do, but ultimately, no human is the producer of life, and with that said, should not be the producer of the death of these babies.  As young college students, I think that if we can choose to have sex, then we need to be able to woman (and man) up to the consequences.  For me it goes beyond patriarchy and societal set ups here.  It comes down to the fact that in this generation we are given so many options and choices, and are constantly told that we can do whatever we want, and there is no accountability with the consequences, and the results are devastating.  My end for today is that this world needs a savior, and fortunately there is one in Jesus Christ.  He will love you no matter what you have done or who you are if you will accept that he came to the world to live and to die for each and every one of us to have life!  I love you all readers and hope that your day is awesome today!

  2. I agree. neglecting to examine consequences is the same as giving half-truth, which is false information.

  3. PS: I saw the post on Facebook and thought it was very fitting (and debatable).

A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said:

‘Doctor, I have a serious p…roblem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even 1 year old and I’m pregnant again. I don’t want kids so close together.’

So the doctor said: ‘Ok and what do you want me to do?’

She said: ‘I want you to end my pregnancy, and I’m counting on your help with this.’

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady: ‘I think I have a better solution for your problem. It’s less dangerous for you too.’

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.

Then he continued: ‘You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2 babies at the same time, let’s kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we’re going to kill one of them, it doesn’t matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.’

The lady was horrified and said: ‘No doctor! How terrible! It’s a crime to kill a child!’

‘I agree’, the doctor replied. ‘But you seemed to be OK with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.’

The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point.

He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that’s already been born and one that’s still in the womb. The crime is the same!

    If you agree, please SHARE.

Together we can help save precious lives!

    1. Thank you so much with sharing your story with me and the internet world. It takes a lot of bravery to be vulnerable not sure what the response will be. I want to reassure you that you are not a horrible person for having an abortion, and I hate that you are ashamed about what you have done. In every situation in life, there is redemption for those that desire to have it, so please allow redemption and love sooth the pain away. Every thing does happen for a reason and it is purposeful that you shared your story because you could stop someone from getting an abortion you know?! Please be encouraged in knowing that Jesus Christ still loves you and there is no amount of wrong that He wont forgive.
