LITERALLY! here, listen! Great song.
Happy Spring Break all of you faithful readers 😀 ShoutOut will be going on a short hiatus for this week.
I will be taking my hiatus on a cruise boat in Cozumel, Mexico. With grrrir and somethingbeany, as a matter of fact! Please don’t cry because ya’ll are jealous. I’ll tell you all about it when we return!
Now, it’s important to address the danger of traveling to an unfamiliar place. While Spring Break should be a wonderful time for you and all your friends, beware of the possibilities of rape, violence, and any other horrible situations you can think of. You’re not invincible.
In a recent article found on CBSnews.com, the dangers of being in Mexico are brought to college students’ attention. They are quoted saying, “For thousands of college students, spring break is an annual week-long party, featuring beaches, bikinis, and beer. And for many, that means Mexico. But the ongoing drug war is making the country more dangerous today than ever. Prompting Texas officials to warn college students to stay out of Mexico for spring break.”
Oops. Be careful if you’re heading to Mexico. Stay in groups and try not to get caught in the drug cartel/violence. Need drugs in Mexico? Bring your own. Just kidding! Please, don’t. You can have a good time without taking drugs. However, there’s always tequila (if you’re 21, of course) and drink responsibly, please! What you expect to be a good time could turn into this:

That doesn’t look like much fun, now does it? What a waste of money on vacation, if nothing else. But, I don’t think any of you educated college kids would ever try to get that drunk and expect to have a good time.
Stolen from RAINN’s 2008 Spring Break tips for students:
- Get to know your surroundings before you go out and learn a well-lit route back to your hotel or rental property.
- Always carry emergency cash and keep phone numbers for local cab companies handy.
- Form a buddy system with close friends and agree on a secret “butt in” signal for uncomfortable situations.
- Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe in any situation, go with your gut.
- Avoid being alone or isolated with someone you don’t know and trust.
- Don’t accept drinks from people you don’t know or trust.
- Never leave your drink unattended, and if you do lose sight of it, get a new one.
- Always watch your drink being prepared.
- Try to buy drinks in bottles, which are harder to tamper with than cups or glasses.
- Avoid putting music headphones in both ears so that you can be more aware of your surroundings, especially if you are walking alone.
