For shameless self-promotion!
So dear readers, you may want to know some of the wonderous ways you can flex your feminist activist muscles on campus with like-minded people. You may wonder how we got this gig at the blog! You too can be a blogger! Or you could look into contributing or working on JMU’s feminist zine Sister Speak! Or become a Women’s Studies Minor! Or you may be curious in helping to start-up Dukes For Choice with Katie O! The selection is endless! All the technical “how-to” stuff after the jump.
The blog is an internship through the Women’s Studies department that is one credit and requires at least 9 hours of credit within the minor. If you are reading this post, then you probably are familiar with the blog! If you have any questions, you can e-mail the fabulous Dr. Melissa Aleman at alemanmc@jmu.edu
Sister Speak is the coolest little publication on campus! (Full Disclosure: I work on it) We collectively work together to assemble a collection of feminist prose, poetry and artwork to be bundled up together in a once a semester publication. If your interest is piqued, I invite you to pick up a copy of the Spring 2010 issue outside of the Cross Disciplinary Studies office in Moody or wait until finals week to acquire a freshly printed copy of the Fall 2010 issue! In the past, Sister Speak has worked on a extracirucular/volunteer basis but in the last semester Dr. Mary Thompson started an internship that largely functions as a conciousness raising group to aid in producing articles for the publication, but you do not need to take up the internship to be a member! For more information (or to sign up for e-mails!) email sisterspeak@gmail.com
For information on the best minor at JMU, check out the JMU Women’s Studies Website
And Katie O. is trying to start up a pro-choice group on campus called Dukes For Choice. We need a certain number of people interested, so if you are down for fair representation on campus and advocating for choice, then you can e-mail me at mitchisamazing@gmail.com or Katie O. at the sisterspeak e-mail.
Cheers! And I hope to see some of you around!

I love just about everything about this post, but I think your email address is the best part.
