Read this. Sound crazy and not something that would happen in America, where Roe V. Wade constantly protects a woman’s right to choose?
I often hear these arguments that consist of “Women all around the world have it worse.” Hell, as one my professors pointed out in class the other day: the media uses the Middle East as a mirror to make America’s misogyny seem like it is tolerable and nothing to really complain about.
Just not so. Just take a glance at Sarah Palin. (I know she is a favorite target BUT) Look at all the misinformation she spreads about overthrowing Roe V. Wade. And she claims she works in the best interest of women.
When she was the mayor of Wasilla she made women pay for their rape kits (because after someone is RAPED, they are totally carrying around enough money to pay for when it happens. Not only do you have to totally be afraid of being raped 24/7 and live on a rape schedule, but formally, in Wasilla, you have to keep a nest egg “just in case.” I’m shocked she didn’t start offering Rape Insurance Plans.) She also cut funding for shelters for pregnant teens, which, speaking as a former resident of Alaska, is a REALLY huge problem there. Kind of sours that whole “I’m an understanding Mom who makes lemonade out of lemons” charade, doesn’t it?
And now, coming November Second, is a whole lot of Republicans (Those Grizzly Mamas) who want to reverse Roe V. Wade. Which is already under attack constantly, be it crazy miscarriage laws, forced ultrasounds, or all the other totally insane ways the GOP tries to shut down a constitutional right. Yeah, I cannot express how much getting women into government is GREAT, but not at the cost of women across the country. Look at how much the right to have an abortion is being shut down nation wide, and know that we are not that far off from being that tragic case in Poland. Palin and her grizzlies are a “solution” looking for a problem, all under the pretense of being “feminists.” This is deplorable, and we need to wake up. The right to choose can no longer be a right when it is only in language, and there are five hundred roadblocks to prevent practice.

The idea that Sarah Palin is pro-women is absolutely ludicrous; a look at her policies should automatically discredit any kind of “pro-women” angle she’s trying to work. Just because both have vaginas doesn’t warrant her my (or any other woman’s) unconditional support.

I thought your article “I hate to be an Alarmist, but…” was utterly amazing and well informed. My friend sent me to this website because she knows how incredibly important equal rights is for me.. and I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit of a feminist. This article was completely awesome, and I wanted to let you know how impressed I am by this site.
